Social selling: from trend to fully fledged sales channel.
Social selling, social marketing, selling on social media: call it what you like, as long as it drives purchases.
Social selling, Instagram style
After Facebook, it is now Instagram's turn (a Facebook subsidiary) to move into social selling. Proof that multichannel is no longer "multi" but "omni". Launched in the United States a few months ago, the feature has been so successful that Instagram is now rolling it out more widely. The verdict is clear: according to an L2 Inc study, 72% of Instagram users decide to buy a product after seeing it on the social network. Taking the next step and offering a shopping feature on the platform was only logical. With its success confirmed in the United States, extending the service was the natural move.
Instagram, the ideal social network
Instagram counts 25 million active accounts, 800 million monthly users and a very young audience; it is the network of choice for fashion lovers. The feature will now be available in France, as well as in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Canada and Australia. By indirectly stepping onto Amazon's turf, Instagram is positioning itself as an alternative to the marketplace. But its ambition apparently goes further, into services. What could be simpler than booking a table at a restaurant after admiring its decor? Or booking a room or a trip after picturing yourself lying on the most beautiful beach in the world? We could take this even further and imagine that, with the arrival of virtual social networks, product demonstrations, immersive hotel room tours and placing a piece of furniture in your living room in virtual reality, pressing the "buy" button will feel as natural as pushing a shopping cart through a supermarket does today.
